Measuring the world of atoms in an industrial style
Cost-effective coating analysis and micro hardness measuring instruments enables economic quality testing in industrial nanotechnology.

Under the term nanotechnology, specialists develop and realize coatings or objects with thicknesses or dimensions of only a few manometers. Due to their special, physical properties, the coatings or objects that are only a few atomic layers thin have particular advantages.

Until now the cost of the instruments used for characterization of the properties of this nano-coats has been uneconomically high. Such instruments are almost exclusively suitable for laboratory applications.

Now, quality testers in the field of nanotechnology can work much more cost-efficient using the FISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDV® for the analysis and thickness measurement of nano-coatings and the and the PICODENTOR® HM500 for nano-hardness measuring.

The cost of acquiring these instruments is less than half the typical cost of current comparable instruments. This is possible through the well thought-out design of these measuring instruments in combination with sophisticated evaluation electronics and software.
Moreover, with the automated measurements processes that last only a few seconds, depending on the specifications, it is not only suitable for laboratory measurements but can be used advantageously for quality assurance in manufacturing. In combination with a personal computer, the instruments provide all typical statistical evaluations, print forms and documentations. In this manner, it provides a qualified quality test in the field of industrial nanotechnology.

Through the development of a cost-effective coatings analysis and micro-hardness measuring instruments suitable for use in industrial manufacturing, Helmut Fischer GmbH + Co. KG of Sindelfingen, Germany proves again its great competency and innovative power.

Nanofactory Instruments develops and produces in-situ tools for electrical and mechanical probing inside the transmission electron microscope (TEM), without compromising its analytical capabilities. This combination of techniques enables simultaneous and correlated contact probing and manipulation of the sample while observing the sample with all the usual TEM techniques. This combined approach offers outstanding nanotechnology tools for manipulation, measurement and imaging on the atomic scale. The technique offers new opportunities for research and development in areas such as materials science, information technology and nanoscience.
The company’s solutions are based on miniaturized and patented scanning probe microscopes (SPM) that are small enough to fit inside the specimen holder of the TEM and it is the combination of two existing technologies that creates new opportunities for microscopy users. It gives the TEM user a set of manipulation and measurement tools and enables the SPM user to view and obtain information from the probe and sample at the nanoscale. The instruments make it easy to position and align a probe to conducting, semiconducting or non-conducting nanostructures with sub-nm precision, as well as characterizing, probing and imaging the object simultaneously. They enable electrical and mechanical probing of nanostructures inside the TEM and can be optimized for the study of dynamic processes.
The system consists of three main parts: a TEM specimen holder with an integrated SPM, control/measurement electronics and control/measurement software. We offer three different versions of the TEM holder: 1) electrical probing (STM-TEM), 2) micro-Newton probing (TEM-NanoIndenter) and 3) nano-Newton probing (TEM-AFM). The TEM holder fits instruments from any major TEM manufacturer without any modification of the TEM.

Nano-scale resolution positioners are widely adopted in scanning
electron microscopes, scanning probe microscopes or other system which
need nano-scale positioning. Institute of physics, Academia Sinica
develops an 3 axes nano-scale positioner that the maximum load of X,Y
axes and Z axis can be 6000g and 250g, respectively. The positioner
can be driven by stepping and scanning mode. In stepping mode, the
single step can be 70 nm with 12 mm stepping range. In the scanning
mode, the highest resolution is 0.08 nm with 5 micron actuating range.
This actuator has a dimension of 60x30x30 mm.
